In A Mess of Porridge, I wrote about Addie Polk, a 90 year old widow, who shot herself when her home was foreclosed on by Countrywide Home Mortgage. In that article I mentioned Countrywide had been taken over by Bank of America, and questioned BoA’s motives.

I can speculate that she may have needed the loan for medical bills and funeral expenses for her husband, but I don’t actually know that. What I do know is that she must have been pretty desperate for money to sign her house over for it. Because there’s no doubt that she didn’t think she’d pay on that loan for 30 years and get it paid off when she was 116 years old.
